“After all, we promised Grandpa we’d look after the vineyard and the cellar.”
Hi, we’re Adéla and René – two dreamers who decided to breathe new life into an old wine cellar and turn it into a retreat for ourselves and our guests.
The cellar – or Šidlenka, as we call it – stands in Šidleny, a little village of wine cellars near Milotice u Kyjova in south-east Moravia. You could say it’s quite literally the first thing you see as you arrive in Šidleny.
Until recently, the cellar was mainly a place of work, and its only visitors were Grandpa’s friends at their weekly wine tasting. But as is the way of things, time moves on, and a new generation is making its mark on the old wine cellars of Šidleny too. One day, we were also faced with the question of what to do with the cellar and the vineyard.
We threw ourselves into planning, pre-construction preparations and writing down our ideas of how to build something new on traditional foundations.
At the end of 2024, we started the building work. The ground floor of the wine cellar was left just as it was, but the attic was transformed beyond recognition. Little by little, our vision of a beautiful place was becoming reality.
